About
Us

Although the Big Sky Country of Montana is home, my husband and
I traveled the world for over 25 years as members of the United
States Air Force.
I have been involved
in breeding and showing top quality Cavalier King Charles
Spaniel Cavaliers since 1990, beginning in England with my
first Cavalier Revaliac Maxheadroom.
Since 1992, when LuckyCharm and Nordictouch were the FIRST
CAVALIERS in MONTANA, a deep friendship and cooperation
developed with Siv
Jendresen of Nordictouch Cavaliers, which continues today.
Nordictouch developed
the foundation of the quality
CAVALIERS in MONTANA.
We
are serious about the breed & we have experience.
Since 1998, when we first entered the show ring, under Siv’s
mentorship and guidance, we
have finished 5 Cavaliers to Confirmation titles, and we plan to
continue to finish dogs to their Champion Titles in the USA and
Canada. We are
proud of showing our home Cavaliers
from the Bred-By-Exhibitor Class, and are working on our
third generation of Champions from that class.
From our home in central MONTANA, we also attend, show
and support Cavalier Regional and National Specialty venues
whenever possible.
All of our dogs &
puppies are dual registered with American Kennel Club (AKC) and
with Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club, USA (CKCSC).
Begun in 1954, CKCSC is the first and oldest CAVALIER
breed registry in the US. Member in good standing with CKCSC,
I have been a member since 1994 and you can find me
listed every year in the CKCSC yearbooks since 1994.
I am also listed as breeder (in good standing) on
www.ckcsc.org.
Siv & I are the ONLY
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Breeders listed from
MONTANA!
Our foremost focus
is to better the breed on several levels. We show our own dogs
and breed with the goal of producing Cavaliers who are sound
physically and mentally and who are as good as or better than
their parents. Top
quality Cavaliers don’t just happen! They come from well-planned breeding from healthy, happy
parents. . We
do the required health testing to validate our sound, healthy
Cavaliers. As
important as what’s “under the hood”, the beautiful coat,
large glowing dark eyes, and melting expression are recognized
traits of all CAVALIERS clearly found in our boys and girls.
Over the last 15 years we have placed Cavalier puppies with
happy families in 21 states throughout the US and provinces in
Canada. Over
the years we have attended numerous seminars and classes on
handling , dog psychology , reproduction & obedience.
Although most puppies will become much loved pets in family
homes, we also have EXPERIENCE in picking out show potential
puppies who will go to homes where they will begin a career in
the show ring. These
special Cavaliers are sold on co-ownership.
This is meant to provide protection of our TOP QUALITY
Pedigrees that we have spent years building.
It also provides the new owners with mentoring from an
Experienced Breeder and Show Exhibitor.
We sell ALL pets only on spay/neuter with limited
registrations.
We
are continuing into 2008 with goals set and a healthy
attitude towards * doing what is right for this breed
*. Please note that all of our puppies are
permanently registered with the Kennel Name "Luckycharm".
I am the only breeder authorized by AKC and CKCSC to use this
kennel name and am not associated with any Cavaliers registered
by any other breeder whom may be using a derivation of the
Luckycharm name.
General
Information

The following is general information that I share with people
who may be interested in getting a Cavalier as a family
companion. I
request information such as:
-
Full
name,
-
Telephone
number,
-
Information
about the family,
-
Is
there someone at home all / most of the time?
-
Is
there a safe place for the dog to go? (fenced yard?)
-
Are
there other pets? (breed & ages?)
-
Is
there a color or sex preference?
-
Is
there preference for a perfectly marked pet or is a less than
perfectly marked Cavalier acceptable?
I highly recommend researching the breed before making a decision to
open your home to a Cavalier. Great sources for information can
be found at www.ckcsc.org
or www.cavaliersonline.org.
I carefully choose prospective "parents", as I want to
ensure that my puppies are placed in permanent, loving homes. I
also try to match the family type, size, age, activity level with the
personality of the puppy. For instance, if a puppy is very
outgoing and energetic, it might not be a good match for less active
people. That puppy might be better suited to an "on-the-go
family with children".
A fenced area is a requirement if you get a
dog from me. It doesn't have to be a huge area, a dog run or one
of those kennels than can be erected pretty easily will provide a safe
place for the puppy to go out and go potty. Electric fencing is
not a good idea because it may work to keep your puppy/dog in, but it
doesn't keep other dogs/people out. It would be terrible if a
stray dog were able to get to your precious puppy. Also,
dog-knapping is a risk. These dogs are very valuable and
unscrupulous people unfortunately are looking for an opportunity to
steal them where and when they can. I do require references;
usually a letter from a local veterinarian or someone else who has
known the family for some time will do nicely. I am of course
concerned that the puppy will be well looked after in a loving home.
I always recommend that new Cavalier owners go through
obedience course with their Cavalier and if interested, go ahead and
show the dog in Obedience Class in AKC shows (you can do this even
if the dog is spayed/neutered). It is a lot of fun
and very rewarding for both the dog and family member.
The dogs that we use in our breeding program are heart checked (by
certified Veterinary Cardiologist) and eye checked (by
certified Veterinary ophthalmologist). Although it is
not impossible that the puppies will not acquire Mitral Valve Disease
(MVD) at some point in their lives, the chances are very good that
they will not develop it
until later (after the age of 5), if they develop it at all.
We only have a few litters a year and most of our puppies will go to
pet homes, so they will be sold on a spay or neuter contract. I
am a member of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club (the original
and oldest Cavalier Club in the US). We follow the Cavalier King
Charles Spaniel Club Code of Ethics for breeding. Our puppies
are all be micro chipped and registered with AKC and the Cavalier King
Charles Spaniel Club (CKCSC).
You can find even more useful information on the CKCSC web site www.ckcsc.org.
In fact, CKCSC has a list of questions that are helpful for you to ask
of any breeder that you may be considering buying a puppy from.
I encourage you to go to the home page of www.ckcsc.org
for information about the breed and the code of ethics that we go by.
Also www.cavaliersonline.com
is another good site to check out.
